Conferences related to Ice, Arctic, Polar region, river and sea ice

These are some of the ice related conferences held in regular intervals.

POAC (poac.com)

POAC stands for the International Conference on Port and Ocean Engineering under Arctic Conditions.

Held every two years, the conference addresses issues related to coastal and offshore engineering in ice-covered waters. POAC started in 1971 in Trondheim, Norway.

The last POAC conference was held in Montreal, Canada. Next conference will be held in 2013 in Finland.

IAHR (iahr.net)

IAHR stands for The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research. The worldwide independent organization of engineers and water specialists was founded in 1935. IAHR focuses in river and maritime hydraulics to water resources development and eco-hydraulics, ice engineering, hydroinformatics and continuing education and trainings.

IAHR Ice Symposium is one of the many water related conferences IAHR conferences. The first Symposium on Ice was held in Reykjavic, Iceland in 1970 and subsequent conferences are being held every two years after that. The upcoming 21st International Symposium on Ice is going to be held in China in 2012.

OMAE

OMAE stands for the Conference on Ocean, Offshore and Arctic Engineering. The yearly conference is organized by the OOAE Division of ASME (American Society of Mechanical Engineers) to promote technological progress and international cooperation in ocean, offshore and arctic engineering.

The recent OMAE conference is the 30th edition, held from June 19th – 24th 2011 in Rotterdam, The Netherlands.

ICETECH

ICETECH is the international conference and exhibition on ships and structures in ice. The conference is organized every two years by the Arctic Section of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers (SNAME).

The last ICETECH conference was held in 2010 in Alaska and next conference will be held in Banff, Canada in 2012.

ISSW Workshops

The International Snow Science Workshop (ISSW) help to faciliate the interdisciplinary exchange of ideas and experiences between snow science researchers and practioners. The motto of the ISSW Workshop is “The Merging of Theory with Practice”.

ISSW hosts a biennial conference in the western North American mountain region and brings together researchers and practioners from all over the world. ISSW started in 1976 in Banff, Alberta. There was a gap of 4 years before the next workshop was held in 1980 in Vancouver, BC.

ISSW Conference, ISSW 2012 will be held in Anchorage, AK, from the 16th September to the 21st September 2012. Last conference, ISSW 2010, was held in Squaw Valley, California, from October 17st to October 22nd 2010.
